Imagine a sculpture that doubles as a valuable business tool. That describes the Samsung 2333SW 23″ widescreen LCD monitor perfectly. Its soft curves, rich piano black finish and clear acrylic accent bar lend distinctive style and sophistication to your desk. Its clean look extends even to the back, with an integrated housing that hides all your cables. And when you turn it on, the 2233SW more than lives up to expectations. The 16:9 aspect ratio provides more room for multitasking. 1920 x 1080 full HD resolution gives you the highest resolution possible. The 5ms response time and 20,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio mean razor-sharp, detailed motion video. Exclusive Samsung technologies give you rich color with natural skin tones. With Aspect Ratio Control, the 2333SW won’t stretch 4:3 content to fill the widescreen. Whether you’re viewing 5:4 or 4:3 content, it will always be distortion free. The 2333SW also offers you a Custom Key, for quick, one-touch access to the Samsung picture optimization function you use the most. And an energy-saving Power Consumption Control lets you set your 2333SW to turn off automatically at a specific time. Beauty inside and out. With the Samsung 2333SW, it’s not hard to imagine.
This monitor doesn’t meet my needs. If your needs are different, you may rank this monitor higher.
PROs:
-beautiful screen; colors and resolution
-beautiful overall appearance — shiny black bezel, kinda cool blue on/off light
-decent price (understand it’s much cheaper at Dell.)
-connecting the monitor stand is EASY. Apparently they have completely redesigned the stand, so contrary to earlier reviews, this is not an issue.
CONs:
-control buttons on the side panel which are unlabeled, which serve more than one purpose (depending on if you’re in menu mode or not). Not at all intuitive or easy.
-the monitor is not height-adjustable. (I’ve read that other buyers have been putting a phone book under the monitor stand to raise up the monitor). It does tilt a bit, so that’s some help.
-Set up was horrible. Very poor documentation; the Quick Start Guide was very poorly designed and the information on software installation was not even close to complete. (I’m running Vista 64 and thought this monitor would be an easy Plug Play, but not so, probably because the included CD didn’t have the needed info for this particular model)?
-the CD enclosed did not have the option of this particular model Samsung (it provided info on 6 other models – perhaps similar; maybe not?)
-no HDMI connection
-no Speakers at all (you would have to run separate speakers from a speaker out on your computer)
-native resolution is 1080 x 1920; if you want to use a digital connection to the monitor, your computer video card may not support that high a resolution. At lower resolutions, the text (and everything) looks “fuzzy”
I wanted to run this monitor from my Sony Vaio laptop (series Z)which has an HDMI out, a DVI out,and a VGA out. Since VGA is only analog, I skipped that option. Using the DVI out, the maximum resolution my NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS card would output was 900×1600 which appeared way fuzzy on the Samsung monitor. Using the HDMI out from the Sony Vaio would have been the perfect solution…but the Samsung only has DVI in and VGA in, so HDMI was not going to work. It might have been possible to find an adapter to convert from HDMI to DVI or find a cable (I’ve had good luck with Blue Jeans Cable)that has HDMI on one end and DVI on the other end, but at this point I wasted so many hours trying to configure it, that I thought it best to return this monitor and start my research again.

So far it is a great Monitor. Much better than the Acer that we had before, or the one before that, don’t recall the brand.

This monitor was basically the best price in that size range. And 23 inch is huge, I wouldn’t want a larger screen unless it was for watching from across the room, like a TV.

I have been a Mac user for 10 years, have had a 30″ and 20″ Apple Cinema Display in the past. I purchased this monitor as an alternative to spending the high price on an Apple monitor. It works so well for me that I am considering buying a second so I can run dual displays. The only annoyances are the small reflection that the plastic body surrounding the screen itself puts off. A few days later the slight reflection did not bother me at all. Once in a while coming out of sleep mode the monitor will have a hard time grabbing the signal and will give me static. A quick tap of the power button off and on fixes this. Overall, no problems what so ever with this monitor. I have used it now connected to my MacBook Pro 15.1″ and also my Mac Mini.
