Dell S2209W – I returned this monitor and bought the HP W2338H. Maybe it’s a case of where you get what you pay for. The Dell was OK but the text had ghosting and was very annoying/tiring. The HP is great except that the glossy black bezel shows every little speck of dust and your fingerprints as you inevitably reposition the monitor.

As of 9/29/09 the Dell S2209W monitor is available on the Dell website for $240, or roughly 60% of the price shown here ($389 as of today).
Furthermore, better color representation is available on an LCD monitor that uses In Plane Switching (IPS) such as the Dell 2209WA, also available for less than $389. IPS will also give you a wider viewing angle (178° vs. 160°). The drawback to an IPS monitor is slightly slower response time, so gamers may want to keep looking. In addition, the pixel pitch of the S2209W is better than the 2209WA (.248 vs. .282). However, since the S2209W is a Twisted Nematic (TN) monitor it cannot display all 16.7 million colors (of which your eye can only distinguish 10 million) so must use dithering (two adjacent pixels blend together to simulate a third color), which is not the optimal solution for either color or clarity.
But at any rate, this is clearly not the best price for the S2209W. The rating is based on the price, and not on the quality of this monitor as compared to others in the $240 range.

This monitor arrived with a bright blue line down the center of the screen. Dell would not send out a new one for exchange. They said that dead pixels is not a valid reason for a replacement. However, they told me I could return it, which I did. I was disappointed because I purchased it on sale and it was no longer on sale after I returned it.
One would think that that many dead pixels would be a valid reason for a replacement under their warranty, but apparently not!

I ordered 2 monitors both came at the same time and undamaged. Both worked perfect right off no adjustments. NO bad pixiels and cannt beat the price. They’re as good as my Samsung SyncMaster. Of course only time will tell if they last. I replaced a Hanns-G it lasted 8 months. I’d recommend the DELL monitors to anyone wanting a trim, stable, quality, widescreen….
